Bioactivity:
Hetacillin is a β-lactam antibiotic that belongs to the amino-penicillin family and is converted to ampicillin by esterase. It is a prodrug that has no antimicrobial activity of its own, but it rapidly breaks down acetone in the human body to form ampicillin, which is active against a variety of bacteria.
