N?-allyl-L-arginine is a competitive and reversible inhibitor of bovine brain nitric oxide synthase (nNOS) . N?-allyl-L-arginine can inactivate nNOS in a time-dependent manner. N?-allyl-L-arginine also is a substrate, producing L-arginine, acrolein, and H 2 O.
