Acetyl-L-carnitine is a stimulator of α-secretase activity and amyloid precursor protein (APP) metabolism. Acetyl-L-carnitine induces NF-κB-mediated upregulation of mGluR2 receptors, thereby exhibiting neuroprotective, antidepressant,analgesic, and antinociceptive activities.
